Haas & Leonard Conquer the CHAOS in Ohio!
The DMP Awnings Nitro Chaos Championship series returned to Ohio's Edgewater Sports Park just outside Cincinnati on June 19-20th and with twenty one cars on the property the nitro fumes were thick!
Indiana's Dave Hill wheeled the "Mad Max" nitro funny car to the top qualifying position with a career best 3.56 at 220 mph but it was Tennessee's Joey Haas who found his way to the winners circle in the McKinney Motorsports 'A' Field over Texan Jody Austin. Haas had it hopped up for a new track record in his competition single solo run as Austin's big blower explosion in the semi-finals forced him out of competition due to parts damage. Haas and team "Nimrod" were on a lap, but had to lift early, still clicking off a 3.83 at 152 mph.
In the CP-Carrillo 'B' Field fans were guaranteed to see a first time winner as Utah's Mathew Leonard and Missouri's Greg Jacobsmeyer squared in an all nitro fuel altered final round. Leonard, fresh off his win in the AA/FA category the weekend before at Bowling Green, was off the line first and never trailed as his 4.01 at 176 won over Jacobsmeyer's 4.29.
