Wheeler & Austin Claim Victory at CHAOS in the Cornfield!
The DMP Awnings NITRO CHAOS Championship tour charged into Iowa to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Eddyville Raceway Park on May 23-25th at the 2nd Annual Twisted Shifterz and 360-Steel CHAOS in the Cornfield presented by Stanke Motorsports!
Sharing the stage with the Funny Car Chaos series, this three day CHAOS double down event is the biggest event of the year at ERP. With parts attrition from the season opener being the biggest factor, thirteen entries came to compete in the Nitro Chaos categories. Qualifying was tricky for the high horsepower flame throwers and after the ladders were set it was time to play for keeps in Sunday's final eliminations.
In the CP-Carrillo 'B' Field, a pair of fuel altereds came to life as first time CHAOS finalist Cody Austin wheeled the "BushWhacker" to the line to square off with Anthony Whitfield's all new "Mighty Mouse" entry. Austin had this one from start to finish and despite coming extremely close to taking out the finish line markers, clicked off a winning 4.28 at 118 mph to Whitfield's 5.01 at 118 mph. Whitfield had major engine problems in the run and hopefully will be able to make repairs in time for the next event on tour.
The McKinney Corp 'A' Field finalists fired up in a pair of outlaw front engine top fuel dragsters. Garry Wheeler Jr wheeled Jon Brook's "Grand Prix Racing" entry to the line to take on Brian Inouye in Dave Daunheimer's "Frantic Fueler" machine. Both these teams had shown big numbers in previous rounds and this was a toss-up for any betting fans. Inouye took a slight starting line advantage but just past half-track ran into issues and was forced to lift while Wheeler laid down a strong 3.73 at 200 mph to claim victory in Iowa.
The NITRO CHAOS competitors have a few weeks off before returning to Ohio's Edgewater Sports Park on June 20-21st. We'll see you...at the CHAOS!
